NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) - A health official says the second wave of the swine flu pandemic
is hitting Connecticut.
On Wednesday, Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London
confirmed that a 64-year-old woman has died after contracting the
H1N1 virus.
While it was the first fatality at that facility, it marks
the third swine flu-related death in the state since Aug. 30, when
the second wave of the virus began.
Bill Gerrish, a spokesman for the state's Department of
Public Health, tells The Associated Press that two other adults
died in Fairfield and Litchfield counties.
There were 10 deaths reported during the first wave of H1N1
in Connecticut, which public health officials say ran from the
beginning of April until Aug. 29.
The woman who died in New London was admitted a week ago and
had underlying medical conditions.
