HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut health officials say the death of a child from New
Haven County is the second in the state linked to the swine flu
virus.
The Department of Public Health identified the victim as
being 5 to 10 years old. Waterbury school officials identified the
child at a news conference as a 6-year-old local boy who was too
ill with underlying medical conditions to attend school this year.
They said the boy died Thursday morning at Yale-New Haven
Hospital.
Earlier this month, a New Haven County resident over age 50
became the first Connecticut resident to die from complications
related to the H1N1 virus.
There have been 637 confirmed swine flu cases in the state.
U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy has asked the U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention to rush $10 million to the state to deal
with H1N1.
