HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Massachusetts man accused of shooting at police and kidnapping a Farmington woman after a Connecticut bank robbery has pleaded not guilty to charges.

Forty-four-year old Brendan McGarrett was in New Britain Superior Court Thursday on charges stemming from the holdup on June 2.

McGarrett, of Springfield, and 34-year-old Richard Gordon, of Winthrop, Mass., were captured after a daylong manhunt that started with a bank robbery in Bristol.

McGarrett and Gordon are accused of leading Bristol and Farmington police on a chase that included firing at officers.

McGarrett was captured about an hour after the bank heist.

He's facing attempted capital felony murder charges as well as robbery and home invasion charges and is due back in court in August.
