SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield Police have arrested a man accused of four separate armed robberies over the last week, including two on Wednesday.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that David Newson allegedly robbed the United Bank on 115 State Street around 2:45 Wednesday afternoon. Delaney says Newson entered the bank, implied that he had a gun, and got away with an undetermined amount of cash.
Officers in the area saw Newson right away, and noticed that his hands were covered in dye from a pack (something commonly put in bank bags to track robbers).
Delaney says that detectives are linking Newson to the robberies at the Starbucks on East Columbus Avenue on Wednesday morning, and two robberies at the Main Street Subway restaurant .
Newson is expected to be charged later in the night, but police are withholding his booking photo until all witnesses come forward and identify the suspect from the other armed robberies.
