SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WWLP-AP) - Federal prosecutors say that two men have been arrested in connection with a series of bank robberies in western Massachusetts and upstate New York since January.
Prosecutors say 21-year-old Zachariah Edwards of Frankfort, N.Y. and 21-year-old Nicholas Ferrone of Utica, N.Y. have surrendered to authorities.
Edwards has been charged initially with stealing $3,400 from an M&T Bank branch in Syracuse on March 4, while Ferrone is accused of taking about $4,400 from a Chase Bank branch in Dewitt on Jan. 28.
Authorities say Tuesday they acted together, and are also suspected of robbing a Chase branch in Syracuse, Trustco and Berkshire Bank branches in Guilderland. Chicopee Police Lt. Timothy Foley told 22News they’re also suspected of robbing the Bank of America branch on Memorial Drive in Chicopee on February 25.
Federal prosecutors believe Ferrone also robbed an Alliance Bank in Oneida, New York.
Both are being held without bail. The names of their lawyers weren't available.
