PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Pittsfield firefighter had to be taken to the hospital after working to put out a fire at the city’s DPW headquarters Monday morning.
According to a news release sent to 22News by the Pittsfield Fire Department, they were called to the big brick building at 232 West Housatonic Street around 8:50 A.M. There was heavy fire coming from the second floor of the DPW garage, and all Pittsfield firefighters were called-in to help put out the flames. Firefighters from Dalton and Lenox also assisted.
The injured firefighter had to be taken to the hospital with burns to the ear and neck, but has since been released.
Firefighters remained at the building trying to put out the last of the fire until mid-afternoon, but it is now completely extinguished.
The State Fire Marshal is working with the Pittsfield Fire Department on the investigation into the fire, which has been determined to be accidental.
