HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - A recent increase in fires across western Massachusetts has caused local fire departments to increase their efforts to educate young people about fire safety.

With that in mind, Holyoke firefighters used a unique tool to get their message across to young students on Tuesday: Freddie the Fire Truck.

The talking, moving, and dancing fire truck entertained and educated students at the Blessed Sacrament School Tuesday morning.

“They teach us about if a smoke detector beeps, then you need to go outside, and you need to stay outside,” seven year-old Rachel Beaulieu said.

Students told 22News that they would bring the lessons that they learned back to their families.
