SHELBURNE, Mass. (WWLP) - Jan McMahon saw smoke as she was driving from Greenfield to Shelburne on the Mohawk Trail Friday afternoon. As she got closer, she realized to her horror that it was her business that was on fire.

McMahon and her husband are the owners of Country Grooming, located right over the Greenfield/Shelburne line. The business was destroyed Friday in a fire that Shelburne Fire Chief John Taylor says was caused by the building’s pellet stove.

Fortunately, the business was not open at the time. McMahon told 22News that on a given day, they will normally care for six dogs.

"I would never want to hurt anybody or anything. Thank God nothing like that, I wasn't open enough to hurt any animals and have any animals in there today," McMahon said.

Among the few belongings she was able to save during the fire was a picture of  her former golden retriever.

McMahon, a former dialysis technician who started the business with her husband back in 2001, says that she is heartbroken by Friday’s fire. She says that they hope to rebuild.
