SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Firefighters in Springfield were able to quickly put out a house fire in the city’s Upper Hill neighborhood during the mid-morning hours on Thanksgiving Day.
Aide to the Fire Commissioner Dennis Leger told 22News that off-duty Fire Lt. Angel Caquius was driving by the house at 961 Roosevelt Avenue before 10:00, when he saw the fire.
He called-in the report and went into the house to assist. Inside, he found a resident trying to put out a fire in the attic.
There were no reports of any injuries. The residents of the home refused assistance from the Red Cross, and plan to stay at home.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but Leger says they don't believe it was suspicious.
