HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - A fire over the weekend at a downtown Holyoke nightclub was deliberately set, firefighters say.

Holyoke Fire Department Lieutetenant Tom Paquin told 22News that the fire at the Caribbean Nightclub on Race Street was set on-purpose.

Paquin says that club workers apparently thought they had already put out the flames, and waited over a half hour to report the fire, which allowed it to spread into the walls.

The nightclub owner declined to speak with 22News about what happened.

Right now, the club is closed for repairs with no immediate plans to reopen.
