AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - One of western Massachusetts’ most famous unsolved murder cases has been re-opened.

Hampden County District Attorney Mark Mastroianni told 22News that they have re-opened the investigation into the murder of 24 year-old Lisa Ziegert.

The young teacher disappeared from her second job at Brittany's Card and Gift Shoppe in Agawam on the night of April 15, 1992. Four days later, her body was found in the woods off Suffield Street.

Mastroianni says that there has been a recent “increase in activity", and they have been testing items, and taking samples from people in connection with the case. Some of the items that are currently under testing had originally been tested years ago.

The District Attorney says that forensic testing capabilities are much better than they were just a few years ago. The advancements have increased the chances of being able to use some pieces of evidence in court.

Mastroianni says that it could be months before they get test results on some of the items.

The Ziegert case is not the only one that has been re-opened by the DA. A total of 22 unsolved murders, dating back to 1991, are being reviewed. If you have any information on the Lisa Ziegert case, or any of the other unsolved murders currently being investigated , you can call the State Police Detective Unit at (413) 505-5993, text SOLVE and your message to 274637, or e-mail the DA's office at wes.info@state.ma.us .
