SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield police say that the city’s 12th murder of the year appears to have come as the result of an attempted robbery.

Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Keough L. Collins, 19, of Chicopee, was killed after he was shot in the head in front of 104 Robert Dyer Circle Sunday evening.

Collins was one of two victims in a double shooting, where a 31 year-old man had been shot in the leg.

Police spent the night investigating at Robert Dyer Circle, which is located in the Robinson Gardens housing development. Delaney says that at this time it seems that Collins’ killing was a robbery attempt, which he says was gang and drug related.

Police detectives are still interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence. No information on suspects has been released at this time.
