HARRISBURG, Pa. (WWLP) - Pennsylvania State Police are looking for the public’s help in solving the murder of a Marine from Massachusetts, who was found dead on the side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike back in 1968.
For 44 years, police did not know the identity of the man found in a seated position, with a single stab wound through the heart, near the Downingtown exit on November 18, 1968. Decades later, through DNA evidence, they were finally able to identify him as Cpl Robert Daniel Corriveau of Lawrence, Mass. At the time of his murder, he was just shy of his 21st birthday.
According to a Pennsylvania State Police news release forwarded to 22News by the FBI, Corriveau was an active-duty Marine who had served multiple tours of duty in Vietnam. He was wounded in action three separate times, and awarded two Purple Hearts.
Earlier in the day that his body was found, Corriveau disappeared from the Philadelphia Naval Hospital, where he was being treated for a combat-related psychiatric condition.
Police are looking for any details that could help them in their investigation. They are particularly looking for people who may have served in the Military with Corriveau, or people who may have been at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital in October and November of 1968.
