Hatfield woman admits to embezzling from company

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) - A Hatfield woman has pleaded guilty to stealing about $175,000 from the Northampton-based broadcast software developer where she worked as a bookkeeper.

Authorities say 44-year-old Amy Wing was first caught stealing from Myers Information Systems in 2009, but after begging for a second chance and promising to pay restitution, she continued to embezzle from the company.

She pleaded guilty Wednesday to 29 counts, including forgery, credit card fraud and larceny.

Prosecutors say she wrote company checks to herself, forged signatures, used company credit cards for personal purchases, and overpaid herself up to $2,000 per pay period.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette reports that Wing's schemes were uncovered in the spring of 2011 by an independent auditor.

Her lawyer says she has no criminal history. She faces sentencing on Jan. 11.
