SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A man who allegedly drove another man around the city and forced him to withdraw money from ATM machines, has been arrested.
Marc Savage, 27, of Springfield was arrested by police on Tuesday morning on warrants for kidnapping and armed robbery in connection with the incident on March 3.
Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that on that night, a 50 year-old man from Agawam was waiting at a downtown traffic light, when a woman got into his car and threatened him with a knife. The woman told the victim to drive to Stockbridge Court and Park Street, where they were met by a man who also pulled out a knife and told the victim to move over.
The man with the knife drove the victim to three different ATM’s in the Sumner Avenue area, and forced him to withdraw money. After withdrawing hundreds of dollars, the victim’s wallet and phone was taken, and the man and woman left the car.
Police released ATM surveillance photos to 22News and other local media outlets following the robbery, and police quickly began getting calls and “text-a-tips” about the suspect’s identity.
Following a police investigation, they received warrants for Savage’s arrest, and police arrested him while he was walking down Maple Street.
Savage was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Springfield District Court.
