SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A stolen car led Springfield police to a man they believe is behind numerous housebreaks in the city’s Sixteen Acres neighborhood.
Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Jaquon Jones, 17, of Springfield was arrested by detectives on Thursday.
According to Delaney is suspected of being behind housebreaks on Northway Drive, Jerilis Drive, Bellamy Road, Joanne Road, and Parkerview Street. In the case of a July housebreak on Jerilis Drive, a set of car keys were taken from the home. This past Friday, the homeowner’s car was stolen.
Delaney says that Jones was positively identified as the person who broke into another home on Tuesday, using the stolen vehicle.
Police located the car Thursday on Merrill Road. After setting up surveillance, they identified Jones and arrested him, obtaining a search warrant for his home on nearby Lucerne Road.
On searching the house, Delaney says police found a variety of stolen electronic items, jewelry, and car keys. Among the items recovered: flat screen televisions, Apple Mac Books, laser printers, iPods, and Nintendo Wii game systems. The owners of these goods were notified by police, Delaney says.
