GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. (AP) - Police in Great Barrington have arrested a New York man they say was driving from store to store, stealing antiques worth a total of about $10,000.

Police say 47-year-old Alfred Girardi of Oyster Bay, N.Y., stole from a store in Sheffield at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, then took items from four stores in Great Barrington within an hour.

Most of the items stolen were books and small collectibles.

Based on a description of a vehicle seen at the Sheffield store, Girardi was pulled over at about 2:30 p.m.

Police tell The Berkshire Eagle the allegedly stolen merchandise was in his vehicle.

Girardi is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Southern Berkshire District Court on multiple larceny charges.
