Thousands of dollars in parts stolen from antique Lee fire truck

Truck is being moved to secure location

LEE, Mass. (AP) - Lee firefighters are trying to figure out who's been stealing thousands of dollars' worth of parts from an antique 1939 fire truck they hope to restore.

The Lee Fire Company -- a private organization made up of current town firefighters -- said Sunday's theft was the second time that someone has broken into a garage at a former landfill and purloined parts from the 1939 Maxim pumper.

Chief Alan Sparks says copper, a chrome radiator, and a windshield frame were among the parts stolen.

He tells The Berkshire Eagle the radiator alone is worth $3,000 and the only use for the parts, other than the truck itself, would be selling them for scrap.

Police have no suspects.

Meanwhile, the vintage truck is being moved to a more secure location.
