SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Two college students were targeted by robbers on campus. This comes weeks after similar incidents at another nearby college.
Springfield College students are on alert after two recent robberies. Both happened around 8 p.m. Monday night in separate parts of campus, but both played out the same.
Public Safety said one student was walking outside of Weiser Hall when someone came up to him asking to use his cell phone and when he had it in sight he took it and ran. A similar scenario took place outside of the Allied Health Science Center.
When Francesca Fabio and her friends found out about it, they were immediately concerned they might be next. “I won't walk home from the Library anymore by myself,” said Fabio, a Junior at Springfield College.
Samantha Labeau, also a Junior said, “Obviously if someone asked me to use my phone I don't think I'd offer it but I'm more worried about getting hurt or something, I don't know what they're going to do.”
These incidents come just weeks after robberies near American International College in Springfield.
It's an unnerving trend, targeting college students.
Vanessa Adjei, a Senior at Springfield College said, “I hope not, at the end of the day we're just trying to go to our class and like I said mind our business, we're not trying to cause any trouble.”
Springfield College Department of Public Safety says they have descriptions of the suspects. Now they want to students to be aware of surroundings, not walk alone and report all suspicious activity.
