WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Westfield police are trying to identify a young man who they say stole $700 from a 70 year-old man’s bank account.

Detective Todd Edwards told 22News that on October 10, the victim had used a Bank of America ATM on East Main Street, but did not log-off before leaving.

The suspect then went to the ATM and withdrew $100, and then $600 from the victim’s account. Edwards says that it doesn’t appear that the suspect conducted his own transaction.

It is unclear whether the suspect had targeted the victim, or whether it was just a crime of opportunity, the detective said.

If you have any information about the suspect’s identity, call Detective Edwards at ( 413) 642-9389 or (413) 572-6400.

Edwards says that this serves as a reminder to always be sure you have logged-out before leaving an ATM.
