EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - East Longmeadow police are still searching for a man who tried to steal the cash register from a North Main Street convenience store Wednesday morning.

Sgt. Daniel Bruno told 22News that at about 1:35 A.M., an officer on patrol noticed a vehicle parked in front of the C-Mart store at 668 North Main. As the officer pulled up toward the store, he found a man coming out of the building carrying the store’s cash register and a shopping bag full of cigarettes and lottery tickets.

When the man saw police, he dropped the register and bag and ran away. The officer was unable to catch up with him, and despite assistance from Springfield, state, and Longmeadow police, they were unable to find the suspect.

Police are looking at the store’s surveillance video to get a better description of the suspect, who is currently described only as a Hispanic man.

As he took off on foot, he left the vehicle behind. Bruno says that the plate on the vehicle does not match the vehicle’s registration.
