GRAHAM, Wash. (NBCNC) - A powerful explosion story has killed the children and husband of a missing woman whose case was the focus of national attention.

Josh Powell's home exploded moments after a Child Protective Services worker brought his two young boys to visit.

She says Powell took the children into his home south of Seattle, Washington and blocked her from entering.

She smelled gas and called her supervisors, and then the home exploded.

Powell's attorney says his client sent him an e-mail minutes before the explosion, with the message "I'm sorry, goodbye".

Powell's wife, Susan, disappeared from their Utah home in December of 2009.

Investigators have called Josh Powell a person of interest.

Susan Powell's parents were granted custody of the boys after Josh Powell's father was arrested on charges of possessing child pornography.

Josh Powell had limited visitation with the boys.
