SAN DIEGO, Cali. (KNSD) - The United States will no longer offer illegal immigrants free flights back to their home countries.
The Department of Homeland Security began the program nearly a decade ago to fly illegal immigrants to Mexico.
More than 125,000 returned to Mexico City on the flights.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say ending the program will save $100-million.
They add that a lack of demand for the flights has made them less cost-effective.
