Florida teen shooting update

(NBCNC) - Lawmakers in Florida are taking a closer look at the "Stand Your Ground" law which allows a person to use deadly force if they think they are in imminent danger.

The state law is under intense scrutiny in the wake of the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen gunned down by community watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, back in February.

Zimmerman's legal team continues to say Martin initiated the confrontation and that Zimmerman fired in self-defense.

State Democrats, many who voted against the initial measure, have created a task force to examine the controversial law.

Both sides in the highly charged case prepare for the possibility a grand jury could review evidence and testimony early next week.
