Google hits the slopes

CUPERTINO, Cali. (KNTV) - Google's original mission was to organize all the data in the world. Lately, the company's Maps unit has been very busy, seemingly mapping out just about every corner of the world.

The latest: Ski slopes.

Google began to hit the slopes (both real and virtual) before the last Winter Olympic Games. Now, we see the fruits of that labor, and it's all downhill.

The company has given us online images of slopes in Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, and the United States. You can check it out from the warmth of your own browser.

It works in the same way as the mapping of the sea: Just like if you want to scuba dive, Google can now offer skiers a preview of what they may face when they hit the mountain.
