CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, forty percent of batteries are during the holidays.

This year you can green your new gadgets by using rechargeable batteries.
They'll save you money in the long run, but are sometimes considered a hassle.

Most rechargeable batteries require a separate charger.

The USBCell is a newer version of rechargeable battery with no necessary additional accessories. They recharge in the USB port of your computer.

" You plug it right in like you're recharging your camera, your iPod... Why not? You don't have to keep buying new batteries. That sounds good," Chicopee resident Jillian Hevey commented.

Call 2 Recycle is a company dedicated to recycling rechargeable batteries. Company CEO Carl Smith told 22News,”Rechargeable batteries tend to carry a greater charge. And so, for any piece of electronic that need a little extra 'umph' rechargeable batteries tend to be more appropriate."

Smith expects the industry to grow in the future.

"If there is such a thing as a growth business and a business that's generating green jobs… I think we're a great example of it," he said.
