Exhibitors gathered in the Better Living Center at the Eastern States Exposition on Saturday. This year’s theme was “extreme green”, so I went on a mission to find something unusual, attention grabbing, and green.

A giant foam igloo instantly caught my eye.

It was constructed by Stuart Fearn, the president of SAFCO Foam Spray Insulation. He invited me into the structure, and right away I noticed the lack of noise.

In addition to being a great sound proofing agent, the insulation creates an air and moisture tight seal. It's sprayed into place and expands to fit any size space in any area of the house.

"This is the most energy efficient insulation you can buy,” said Fearn on Saturday,

He explained that spray foam insulation is the safest choice for your family. "That's a super important part of being green... Indoor air quality […] No VOC's. No off gassing. After as little as 30 days.”

Down the isle from the igloo, Joshua Pendrick, owner of Royal Touch Painting, reiterated the importance of clean air.

"Well the low VOC products also have low odor. So they don't have a strong odor and kids aren't ingesting stuff that... It's really a toxic material," he told 22News.

Pendrick purchases trays and rollers constructed of recycled material. He uses low or no VOC paint.

Both SAFCO Foam and Royal Touch Paint offer services that qualify for LEED Certification .
