Eliminate pests without chemicals

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - Braman Termite & Pest Elimination is one of the few Green Pro certified pest management services in the Springfield area. The company focuses on treating the problem at its source.

"It's called an IPM approach. You're really treating the cause rather than the symptom," Rob Guyette, Braman’s General Manager, explained on Monday.

Guyette was referring to "Integrated Pest Management”, an approach to eliminating the pest without chemicals when possible.

Technicians survey a location to determine why a pest is present.

Recommendations often include landscape changes. Mulch, wood, and shrubs against the house provide ants, termites, and wildlife with food and shelter.

Cracks in the siding and screens are entrances for critters. Mice can squeeze through an opening the size of a dime; rats need a space the size of a quarter. Sealing these holes is an important step to keep rodents out.

Cleaning and trapping are alternatives to pesticides, but not all problems can be treated without chemicals.

Green pest management includes selecting pesticides to minimize risks to people and pets.
