Chicopee still in talks for a casino

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Two casino developers are still free agents and Chicopee is a potential destination. 

The 22News I-Team discovers how Chicopee could still land a casino. 

It's been one month since casino developers had to submit their applications to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. 

Rush Street Gaming (Mass Gaming & Entertainment, LLC) and the Cordish Companies (PPE Casino Resorts) have until Monday to tell the gaming commission if they want to pursue a slots license or a resort casino license. 

The 22News I-Team discovered both companies have had preliminary discussions with Chicopee.  Just this week, one of the developers has continued the conversation about a potential Cabotville site in Chicopee Center. 

A spokeswoman for the Cordish Companies told 22News they did not have any announcements or comments at this time. 

Chicopee mayor Michael Bissonnette told 22News companies have continued to express interest in the Cabotville Mill waterfront as a possible location.  He continues, "anyone considering Chicopee as a place to create jobs and revenue will always have my attention and support."

Cordish has discussed Danvers as a possible site for a slots parlor, according to a selectman in Danvers. 

Those gaming companies do not have to announce where they plan on building by next week, only which type of license they want to pursue. 

Rush Street Gaming has asked the Gaming Commission for an extension on its decision.  The Gaming Commission will discuss this at their meeting next week.
