WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Emotions are running high in western Massachusetts school districts this week.

Westfield Police Sgt. Paul Beebe told 22News, since Friday, they've been investigating reports that a student is allegedly planning to bring a gun to school this coming Friday.

Friday is the day, according to the Mayan calendar, the world is going to end.

Sgt. Beebe said Westfield isn't the only school district to get a threat like this, but so far, there's been no evidence to substantiate it. He said the threat originated on Facebook, but so far no one has been able to produce the original posting. He said the investigation has consisted of second and third-hand accounts. He said parents should feel safe sending their kids to school.

The investigation is ongoing. If there is a safety concern, parents will be notified.
