SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Are you in the market to buy a used car? 22News I-Team reporter Jaclyn Cashman says "buyer beware" when going to the internet for your next vehicle.
The internet is a great place to do research on what type of car you want, but paying for such a pricey item with a click of the mouse can be dangerous.
Gabriela Diaz needs a new car so she went to the internet to see if she could find a deal.
Gabriela Diaz said, "They had a Honda Accord 2003 with 93,000 miles for $2,000, which that was a great deal."
And that is a deal, considering the Kelley Blue Book value for that car was $8,225. There's the first red flag that this deal might be too good to be true.
Other online sellers with similar competitive prices used the same tactics on Diaz to make the sale.
Gabriela Diaz said, “They all went through a third party
company called moneybookers.com."
It looked like a script. They just changed the information to
fit the situation."
The I-Team did an internet search on moneybookers escrow service and several warnings from www.ripoffreport.com popped up.
It appears other online shoppers looking for a Honda encountered this scam, each complaint said the crook asked it's victim to use moneybookers.com to pay for the car.
The Better Business Bureau gives moneybookers.com a C-, but they also warn against using the site saying, "Seems this web site is becoming known as a bogus auto trading/selling site out there.”
