SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A woman who owns property in Springfield has been accused of paying two of her tenants to remove asbestos siding from their home without warning them that the siding contained the potentially hazardous substance.
On Wednesday Attorney General Martha Coakley's office told 22News that Susan Nissenbaum, who lives in North Grafton, was indicted for failure to file a notice of asbestos removal with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, improper removal of asbestos, and improper storage of the substance.
Attorney General Coakley said that Nissenbaum put her tenants at risk by having them unsafely remove asbestos from the property and failing to warn them of the dangers involved. No date has been set for Nissenbaum's arraignment, which will be held at the Hampden Superior Court in Springfield.
