AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - They called it "the party of the century", a final big celebration to mark 250 years.
For the past year the Town of Amherst has been celebrating their 250th anniversary... and tonight they wrapped up a year's worth of festivities with one big celebration.
A live band helped partygoers "dance through the decades," with music from the 1920's through today.
One town leader told 22News tonight's event was the perfect chance to honor the town's history.
22News spoke with Stephanie O'keeffe, of the Amherst select board who said, “The history of a community is really important, and our 250 committee has been working for more than six years to mark this occasion this event is really just a grand finale of a wonderful year of celebration.”
O'keeffe did admit that after an entire year of parties, events and celebrations that it's kind of sad that 2009 is over.
She is glad so many got the chance to learn about amherst's history.
