SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Runners tested their speed and endurance against the cold and competitors during a brisk bright night in Springfield.

Santa made the countdown for runners to begin the 4th Annual Bright Nights 5k Road Race.

The race runs through all the lights in Forest Park.

Many runners dressed up, in the spirit of the season.

Some ran for the fun of it, others in dedication to family members.

Melissa Colfer says, "Has some sentimental value, he liked bright nights, Christmas."

446 runners braved the cold Tuesday.

First place among men, Zack Peitras of Ludlow.

Jackie Evans of East Longmeadow came in first place among women.
