HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The Holyoke Mall will institute a new "no-smoking" policy one week from tonight.
Starting August 3rd, the mall will restrict smokers to six specific locations outside the mall. Most are at least 25 feet from mall entrances.
The main goal is to minimize or eliminate the effects of second-hand smoke.
"Safety issues. Careless disposal of cigarettes. We've had some mulch fires, and also the appearance issue. The cigarette butts just being thrown on the ground," said Mark Dejackome, the Director of Security at the Holyoke Mall.
The Mall will post signs directing smokers to the areas where they can light up outside.
The only area less than 25 feet from the mall will be the red
deck near the bus stop.
