In spite of being deaf, a Springfield teenager is an inspiration on the football field, in the classroom and at home.

17 year-old Trevor Bynum attends the Willie Ross School for the deaf program at East Longmeadow high school.

He touches many lives with his positive attitude.

Trevor's a mentor to his 11th grade friends and classmates.

“He helps me in so many things. He's been really cool. He's a good friend,” said Ricardo Rivera.
I'm just really proud of who he is, I'm very thankful for his help

Trevor Bynum wears the number 32 as a defensive lineman for The Springfield High School of Science and Technology football team.

Coach Elliot Best says Trevor is important to the team.

“He's a leader. He's an upper classman, we look to him for guidance, and we look to him for performance.”

Trevor began attending the Easter Seals summer camp as a child,

He's now a counselor there.

Just recently Trevor received the camp’s Friendly's Future Leadership award.

He told 22News just what motivates him.

“I just ignore them when they say I can't do something because I'm deaf. I'm fine there's nothing wrong with me, I can do it.”

Trevor's mom is so proud of her son

“He wants to go to college. That's a mother's dream, sending her kid to college.”

Right now Trevor's thinking about Sci-Tech's big game Saturday against Putnam.

One more challenge to meet in a life dedicated to overcoming challenges.
