An electronics sales company gets in trouble with the Federal Trade Commission for taking money and then never delivering the product.
Djuan Roberson of West Springfield has bad credit and couldn't get financing to buy a computer. He saw a commercial for Blue Hippo that said all he needed was a bank account and a telephone number and he could get a computer.
Roberson heard about an offer from the electronics company, Blue Hippo. He signed up one month later and finished his payments this past February.
He finished making his payments in February, but didn’t get his computer until July.
Roberson is still owed $300. Djuan Roberson is one of many victims, but he is considered to be the lucky ones.
The FTC wants Blue Hippo held in contempt for taking more than $15 million from victims on false claims that it would finance their purchase of new computers.
"I feel it is easier for me to save up my money and purchase something all at once rather than go through a payment option like they have."
The FTC said fewer than 1 percent of consumers who signed up with Blue Hippo received the financed computers they applied for. The FTC is seeking to get these people their money back.
