SHELBURNE FALLS, Mass. (WWLP) - Time is running out to pick up those last gifts.
Places like Shelburne Falls had many shoppers out looking for a
unique package.
People looking for unique gifts is something those businesses
rely on. Jim Smith of Northampton is looking for something a little
different for his sister. He stays clear of the mall and hits the
small shops in Shelburne Falls.
They're not discount stores, but Ariel Cohen says they're
just right for her.
"I know I'm going to find something beautiful, and I know I'm
going to find something original," says Cohen.
Young and Constantine owner Kathleen Young says not only is a
busy shop good for business.
It’s the only way they'll survive past Christmas.
"Getting to the end of our season, January February, March are really slow, so we need this last boost to keep us around," said Young.
While the economy certainly effect’s their sales, store owners say they're more concerned about the weather, because if you're shopping in Shelburne Falls, you’re doing it outside.
Small shops like Young and Constantine have one thing on their
side, loyal customers.
22News spoke with Cheryl Faufaw of Buckland who said, "I
still come here because I support my neighbors and thats as good a
reason as any."
That keeps these stores going strong through the holidays.
They're still capitalizing on last minute shoppers until Christmas
Eve.
