AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - Two more Amherst College students have tested positive for
Type-A Influenza.
Caroline Hanna, the Amherst College Director of Media
Relations, told 22News that two of those students have been tested
for the swine flu. Swabs have been sent to the CDC for testing and
it could take a few days to get the results.
Hanna said the other six other students tested positive for
Type A Influenza, but have not been tested for swine flu. They are
being treated for swine flu only as a precaution.
Peter Rooney, the Director of Public Affairs for Amherst
College, told 22News that none of the students had traveled to
Mexico, nor had anyone that they've been in close contact with.
Rooney called it "a bit of a medical mystery."
Rooney said the students are isolated in non-student dorms.
Their names and ages not released because of privacy concerns.
Rooney said the cases are not considered serious and the
students are responding well to treatment.
All on campus parties canceled for the weekend. Classes and
sporting events continue as scheduled.
