AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - Some high profile help to raise money to feed the hungry in Amherst Monday.
The Amherst Survival Center held its "Empty Bowls Dinner" Monday at the Pub restaurant.
The PUB donated its space.
Several local restaurants donated the soup, and 40 local potters made 450 ceramic bowls, served by the District Attorney, the Amherst police chief and other notables.
Diners support the center, eat a meal, and take home a work of art.
Chery Zoll says, "And we invite people. They can buy a ticket. Choose a bowl. They can take home, and get fresh soup they can eat with their neighbors. It's a wonderful fundraiser for us. It raises about 5% of our budget."
The Amherst Survival Center is a community organization that provides food, health care and clothing for people in need in Amherst.
