Opponents of a proposed Greenfield biomass plant are going to court.

Leonard and Susan Weeks, and James and Joan Hume filed an appeal today at Land Court in Boston, seeking to overturn a decision made last month by the Zoning Board of Appeals.

The lawsuit claims the board overstepped its authority in granting permits for the plant, and didn't take into account the impact on the environment and public health.

One biomass opponent told 22News she's worried that emissions from the plant will pollute area communities.

"The emissions will also go into neighboring towns such as Turners Falls, Wendell, Erving... this plant doesn't just effect Greenfield... it effects the whole community"

The power plant is also being challenged by Applied Dynamics, a company located next to the proposed plant.
