SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A local university wants to help the city of Springfield develop its Riverfront.

Thursday night, UMass Amherst gathered some of the top planning and development officials from throughout New England.

The representatives from cities that have successfully redeveloped their waterfronts shared their experiences.

Brian Connors, Springfield’s Deputy Director of Economic Development said, “The city's history is tied to the river, it's the biggest city on the Connecticut River, which is the biggest river in New England so it's important to the city and something we want to continue to build off of."

Thursday night’s event is just one part of the university's partnership with Springfield.

Some of its students are doing planning work with the city as part of their classes.
