Unemployment checks miss Thanksgiving

Right before Thanksgiving many local job seekers are finding themselves without their unemployment checks.

Tiffany DeAngelo of Southampton is one of them.
DeAngelo spoke with 22News and said, “Tomorrows Thanksgiving…what if I didn’t have any family around. What if I had children?”

She says this came with no warning and she hasn't received her unemployment payments in
weeks.

22News also spoke with Dave Gadaire, the Executive Director of Career Point, who said, “There are more people filing for claims than the system has capacity to handle.”

Gadaire says the check delays are the result of an upgrade of the state's unemployment benefits system.

Everything should be back to normal in a couple of weeks.
