SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Swine flu hits Hampden County. An 11-year-old girl who complained of flu symptoms on the 29th tested positive for the H1N1 strain of Swine Flu on the 30th. Now, Springfield is taking action to prevent the spread of further disease.
The confirmation of H1N1 in the city of homes came at 3:00pm on Thursday when Springfield's Mayor Domenic Sarno and the Director of Health & Human Services held a news conference discussing the case of the 11-year-old girl.
According to her father, the girl is feeling better and hasn’t had any contact with anyone outside the family. No other members of the family are showing any signs or symptoms of the virus.
22News was also told that the 11-year-old girl, whose name is not being released, did NOT attend Springfield Schools because the family was moving to Connecticut.
