GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. (WWLP) - A group of seven young men from central Berkshire County are being charged with throwing trash, garbage, and other items in the downtown area of Great Barrington early Sunday morning.

Police Sgt. Paul Storti told 22News that the seven people emptied all the trash containers on the sidewalks, and then took trash cans and did the same all over the Main Street/Railroad Street area of town.

A further investigation found the same type of activity at the Lake Mansfield recreation area of town, which is also the town beach.

Police located the seven people at the beach area, and said that they were all in the 17-20 year old range

None of them from the Great Barrington area. Sgt Storti says that they were from the Pittsfield and Hinsdale area.

Later in the morning, police were called to the downtown area by car owners who indicated that their tires were slashed.

Sgt Storti says that all seven are being charged with vandalism. He adds that the mess was so bad that the town highway department had to be called out to clean things up.
