WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) - A historic West Stockbridge business is making a comeback, thanks to generations of devoted customers.
The Public Market was destroyed in an electrical fire back in April, leaving a gaping hole in the heart of the community.
Owner Bernie Fallon's grandfather opened the store in 1930, before supermarkets even existed in the Berkshires.
Fallon told 22News how the community stepped up and pitched in. “We're really lucky in this community. My neighbors at the floor store let me borrow whatever I need. Most of the stuff we're rebuilding with is borrowed or loaned, and people volunteer their time, the laborers are working hard and extra hours for us. “
Fallon found many antique surprises in the walls after the fire, like vintage product labels.
He hopes to have the market back open by August 11th, just in time for the town's beloved Zucchini Festival.
