WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) - A tractor trailer unit crashed into the Fast Lane toll area at Interchange 1 in West Stockbridge Thursday night.

According to State Police SGT David Doughthright, the driver "didn't slow down or see the exit until it was too late."

The TT-unit lost control, hit the Fast Lane booth, and then flipped onto its side on the west side of the interchange," Doughthright said.

No one was injured, but the truck's driver, Sanjeev Dass of Ontario, suffered some scrapes on his arm.

SGT Douthright told 22News that there was a half mile backup on the west bound side of the pike leaving Massachusetts at about 8:45 p.m. Thursday night.  The accident happened at 8:40 p.m.

The 18-wheeler, which was hauling screws and soap, spilled about 100 gallons of fuel into the roadway.  A hazardous materials team was called-in to clear the spill, and the DOT reported that they had to cut up the truck before it could be removed.

Traffic from both directions had to be looped around the flipped-over truck.

Police are considering whether to file charges against Dass, according to State Police Media Relations.
