SANDISFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - One lane is open on Route 8 in Sandisfield after an 18-wheeler tipped over spilling some of its cargo in Berkshire County Friday night.

Trooper James Somerville, who's attached to the Lee State Police barracks, told 22News that the big rig rolled over just after 8:00 pm Friday near the 5-mile marker on route 8, north of the Sandisfield suburb of New Boston.

Trooper Somerville said, "there's some cargo spillage on the road, but there's no fuel spill."  It's unknown what the 18-wheeler was hauling, but State Police told 22News it was nothing that posed a threat to public safety or the environment.

Route 8, which is North Main Street, was closed in both directions for two hours in Sandisfield.  Authorities opened one lane at about 10:30Friday night.  Cleanup crews are working to reopen the road by some time Saturday morning.
