DA wants joint trial in Pittsfield triple slaying

Defendants have until March 25 to file opposition

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - The Berkshire Eagle reports that the Berkshire District Attorney David Capeless has filed a motion to have three men charged in connection with a triple slaying tried together.

A judge on Thursday told attorneys for the defendants they have until March 25 to file their opposition.

Adam Lee Hall, David Chalue and Caius Veiovis are charged with killing David Glasser, Edward Frampton and Robert Chadwell in August 2011. Prosecutors say Glasser was killed so he could not testify against Hall, a member of the Hells Angels, in a court case. The others were killed to eliminate witnesses.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that Capeless says in his motion for a joint trial that the defendants' alleged criminal conduct is part of "a single plan or scheme." He also cites "judicial economy."

Defense attorneys verbally objected to a joint trial.
