EGREMONT, Mass. (WWLP) - It was nine years in the making. After meetings, drawings and convincing voters, the annual town meeting in the Berkshire County town of Egremont is finally getting a new police station.
The town meeting voters in May approved the project cost which totals $415,000.
The new facility will replace a small two-room police office that is located in the Town Hall. The new police station will be located off to the side of the present Town Hall and will provide a better work space for officers in the department to conduct their work in a safe and secure atmosphere.
The new building will be of “modular construction". Town officials at Friday morning’s groundbreaking are hoping for a late fall completion date to allow the police department to move into its new facility before winter weather sets in.
